TRIPADVISOR REVIEW FOR BENSONS IN STRATFORD UPON AVON
I was delighted with my first visit to Bensons Restaurant/Tea Rooms (@Bensonstea) in Baird Walk, Stratford Upon Avon. The whole reason for the visit was to try their gluten free menu, and I was not disappointed.
The premises are small, but with plenty of room at each table, and the decor cleverly designed to give the feeling of space. Taking a minimalistic approach, the restaurant felt comfortable and welcoming.
And then there was the GLUTEN FREE MENU! Yes a whole menu (full A4 page) especially for those of us living life without gluten. No longer feeling like a third rate citizen, I spent some time reading and re-reading the choices I had. Choices!!!! yes Choices!! Now that is a word that we (GF’ites) don’t experience very often when dining out. And what’s more every one sounds amazingly yummy.
I decided on a breakfast as it was only 11am, and opted for 2 poached eggs on gluten free toast with mushrooms and tomatoes. My partner decided on the full brekkie inclusive of gluten!
The price of £5 – yes £5 – included unlimited tea or coffee!
The coffee arrived promptly, served in a cafetierre with simple, but elegant, white cups and saucers, which worked well with the black serviettes. (Not a great fan of the current fashion for black – but it worked)!
Breakfast was served and it looked fantastic, being well presented and perfectly cooked. 10 out of 10 for the poached eggs, cooked to perfection and still a little runny on the inside. Mushrooms and tomatoes were fresh (nothing tinned in sight). Sauces ( if required) were served in small jars, on a saucer with doily and a spoon – nice attention to detail.
We were offered a fresh coffee as breakfast arrived, and asking for a decaff for the 2nd pot was not a problem. The service was faultless.
The breakfasts (both the gluten and gluten free options) were delicious. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience and we will be back soon for lunch and again to try out the afternoon tea – especially after seeing the beautiful cakes, or even the champagne tea (special offer at the minute if you want to buy one as a pressie)
Well done Bensons – a local independent store – and one I can highly recommend if you are in Stratford Upon Avon. They cater for group bookings, and also have wifi – so a great place to work over lunch – now there’s an idea
